I think we should encourage people to mention the level assumed any time we discuss changing or replacing habits.

First level:

Hire a teacher/trainer/psychologist/authority to change your habit. (Outside world to act for/on you.)

Examples:

Take driver training.

Take a class.

Hire a tutor.

Hire a trainer.

Hire a psychologist to do phobia desensitization.

Hire a hypnotist.

Second level:

Individual self applies repeated conscious effort to change a habit in individual subconscious/unconscious.

Examples:

Affirmations.

Any/every self-help technique (Think & Grow Rich, Silva Mind Control, EST, etc.).

Conscious choice of self-descriptive language.

Practice.

Third level:

Epiphany/eureka! Universal Self instantaneously replaces old habit in individual self with new habit.

Examples:

Awakening.

Dream answer.

Epiphany.

Eureka moment.

Realization.

Revelation.

Satori.
